See What Your Review Looks Like
Here’s an excerpt from a sample report for a fictional student, written the way I’d write yours.
What’s working
Your Code Camp tutoring entry is what strong bullets look like. You tutored 12 middle schoolers for 2 hours a week over 30 weeks and built an 8-lesson curriculum other volunteers used. I can see the scale, the time commitment, and your initiative.
What to fix
Your NHS entry tells me what NHS is. It doesn’t tell me what you did.
Before: “NHS is an honor society for students with a 3.5+ GPA. I was elected VP.”
After: “Elected VP by 85 NHS members; ran monthly meetings and coordinated 6 service events totaling 400+ volunteer hours”
What’s missing
Your coding projects sit under Extracurriculars, and there’s no Major-Related Experience section. A reviewer reads NHS and Chess Club before learning that you build software. I’d add a Major-Related Experience section right after Education and lead with your strongest work.
This is a fictional student. Names and details are made up.

For Students Ready for One Last Look
You’re applying to UT Austin with a resume draft.
You want to know if it’s detailed enough and what to fix before you upload it.
You’re applying to Canfield Business Honors or Plan II Honors.
Both require an Expanded Resume, so yours needs to be as strong as you can make it.
You aren’t sure what belongs on an Expanded Resume.
It’s optional, but strongly encouraged. You have the activities, but you’re not sure how much detail UT wants or how to show hours and weeks.
You’re a parent who wants a second opinion.
Your student has done the work, and you’d feel better knowing someone experienced has looked it over.
Not a fit: You haven’t started a resume yet.

Questions You Might Have
Does UT Austin require a resume?
UT calls their resume the Expanded Resume. It’s optional, but strongly encouraged to show fit to major. If you submit one, UT asks for details about what each activity involved, plus the hours per week and weeks per year you spent on it. Canfield Business Honors and Plan II Honors both require one.
How long should my resume be?
UT doesn’t state a maximum length, so your resume can (and should) run longer than one page. I’ll tell you what’s earning its space and what isn’t.
What do I need to send?
After you check out, you’ll fill out a short form. You’ll share your resume as a Google Doc link or upload a file, and tell me your intended major, your UT application round, and what you’re most worried about.
How do you deliver feedback?
I will send you feedback in a Google Doc.
Will you rebuild/format my resume for me?
No, I don’t rewrite your resume for you. I do, however, give you actionable, specific feedback, along with a few sample bullet rewrites to show you what a stronger version looks like, so you can apply that same approach to the rest of your resume. The work and the voice stay yours. Need a clean template to start from? Grab my free resume template.
How soon will I get my review?
Within 3 business days of your submission. If volume will prevent a timely return, I’ll reach out to you. To leave time to revise, submit by October 16 for Early Action or December 4 for Regular Decision.
What if I don’t know how to get started on my resume draft?
Although this service is for reviewing an existing draft, if you’re starting from scratch, check out my ResuMEH to ResumYAY Resume Writing Course.
Can I send a revised version for another look?
This is a one-time review, so I don’t do a second pass on revised resumes. Send me the version you want reviewed, and use the Scorecard to make your edits.
Does AI write this report?
Not exclusively. Your resume goes through a review process I built based on nearly 10 years of supporting students with their resumes. I then read it myself and add my own notes. You get the benefit of both.
Is this a good fit if I’m not applying to UT Austin or A&M?
Yes. While the feedback is especially tuned for those expanded formats, the core resume-strengthening feedback works for any college application resume.
Is this only for UT applicants?
It’s built around UT Austin’s Expanded Resume. Texas A&M also offers resume uploads, so the feedback works there too, and anywhere else you submit one.
What if I have questions after I get my feedback?
Email me at julia@essay-coach.com, and I’m happy to point you in the right direction.
